About

The VPI Cave Club is a nationally and internationally recognized student organization based at Virginia Tech. We’re dedicated to education, conservation, and adventure underground.

Founded in the heart of Appalachia, we’ve built a community of over 500 members (active and alumni) united by a shared passion for caves. With countless caves just a short drive from campus, we explore regularly—through horizontal, vertical, sport, research, and surveying trips.

Our mission is to:

  • Advance the science of speleology
  • Promote safe and respectful cave exploration
  • Encourage fellowship among students and alumni
  • Protect and conserve the karst environment

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced caver, there’s something here for you. Come learn the ropes, get muddy, and discover the underground world with us!

Meetings

In normal semesters, the VPI Cave Club meets on Friday evenings at 7:00pm in Smyth Hall 146 on the Virginia Tech campus. The club meets when the university is in session, and normally does not have summer or winter meetings.

We highly encourage prospective members to attend one of these meetings. There is no prerequisite for joining, or coming to a meeting!
